Standardized testing is a contentious topic. However, regardless of your feelings about it, it’s a necessary part of every student’s education throughout grade school. But standardized tests don’t have to be a source of anxiety.

Standardized tests are used as a measuring stick to help gauge student progress at each school. This allows governing bodies to ensure that educators are helping students reach a predicted level of success appropriate for their age and grade level.

Educators are meant to use these assessments to gauge progress and make the necessary adjustment and improvements to their curriculum based upon the result. It can also be useful in identifying problem areas for particular students who fall below the school average.

However, it should be noted that standardized tests are not the whole picture regarding a student’s level of progress. There is merit to what it can show, but it’s limited in its effectiveness.
