What Exactly is the SAT?

The SAT, or the Scholastic Aptitude Test, is ‘THE’ standardized test. It is meant to test key areas of your education at the end of your grade school years. It’s been a means of examining potential students by colleges for many years.

BMA STEM Tutoring works to help students prepare for this important exam by holding classes, study workshops, and practice tests to help prepare. We want you to attain the highest score possible in an effort to help you with your future and to earn your spot in the college of your choice.

HOW IS THE ACT DIFFERENT?

The alternative choice to the SAT.

The ACT, or American College Testing, is another form of standardized testing used for the same purpose as the SAT. Different states require different tests to enter into college. The differences lie largely in the way the content is distributed, how long you have to answer, and the addition of a unique science-based section to the ACT.

Some states, however, provide you with a choice. This gives students an option to take a test that is more fitting for their personal situation. You are able to take sample tests to get a feel for the types of questions and how long you’ll have to answer. If you’re looking to enter into a science-based field, it may help you to take the ACT.

WHAT DO THESE TYPES OF COLLEGE ENTRY TESTS ENTAIL?

An Overall Assessment of Knowledge

These college-bound standardized tests feature material in four key areas: reading, writing, mathematics, and an optional essay response topic. Some colleges do not treat the essay as optional, however.

The ACT includes all of the same, but with an additional science section as mentioned above.

The material is multiple choice, features long passages to test comprehension, focuses on your language and vocabulary, and can test skills in algebra, statistics, geometry, and even trigonometry.

You owe it to yourself to do everything you can to prepare for the SAT or ACT. While it doesn’t define your entire future, acquiring an impressive score can help with college applications and have an impact on where you end up.
